If you're downloading to use on an e-reader, the technique is to download to a computer first.
Next, connect the e-reader to the computer using a suitable cable (the charging cable might do it).
The e-reader should appear on your desktop as a USB device.
Drag the ebook file you've downloaded into the Documents folder of your e-reader.
