Essays and Other Stuff
I like writing, but sometimes I haven't the patience to write very much. Once I get into a novel, I should be off and running, but I can be easily distracted, I'm afraid. And that's where all this other stuff comes in.
I used to be a Modern Studies teacher in Edinburgh, so I've got plenty to say about politics and current affairs! A small selection of my rantings at the Assorted Essays page
I've written a number of short stories - The Piano Exam is just one - and of course there are the songs and music from both Four Old Geezers And A Valkyrie and The Piano Exam. Somewhere in here you might also find a recipe for Chicken Tikka MacGregor.
Finally, there's flash fiction – see the special section – which is all the rage at the moment. Anyone who wants a story is welcome to ask, I'll try and do them to order. 50 words? 100 words? You name it, and a topic would be useful, too. I don't promise anything, but what I do produce will, until further notice, be free.
